ELASTANE

Elastane is a chemical and synthetic material derived from oil. It is appreciated by the textile industry for its elasticity, which is why it is often found in clothing. Asian countries are the first producers and exporters of elastane, ahead of the United States.

IS IT ECO-RESPONSIBLE?

It is a fiber derived from petroleum, which is an environmental problem. Elastane is very greedy in natural resources, energy and oil. It also requires solvents and harmful chemicals.
Each time it is washed, this fiber releases plastic microparticles that are often found in the ocean ecosystem.

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?

The best alternative would be to make a definitive cross on this material and turn to natural. Linen, recycled cotton or lyncell could be a good replacement.

If it is too difficult for you to make this choice, washing your garment in a laundry bag will help reduce the number of microparticles released.
