POLYESTER

Polyester is a synthetic material, produced with petroleum, massively used in the textile industry. Its low cost justifies its popularity on the market. It is strong, light and UV resistant. It also has thermal, insulating, resistant and elastic properties. Polyester is often found in sportswear, furniture, or even coats.

IS IT ECO-RESPONSIBLE?

Polyester is far from being ecological. It represents a danger for the planet and for human beings. When washed, polyester releases plastic micro-particles that end up in the ocean.

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?

Choosing a natural fiber, such as cotton or wool, over polyester is a more sustainable alternative.

Polyester can be recycled both mechanically and chemically. The increasing use of recycled polyester in the fashion industry is considered more environmentally friendly than the use of traditional polyester. Nevertheless, it is important to note that recycled polyester is not a real solution, as it has constraints in terms of low recycling, high energy consumption and difficult to trace origin.
