PTFE OR ePTFE
PTFE, also known as Teflon, is a waterproof and durable material due to its resistance to water, heat and chemicals. Widely used in the manufacture of kitchen utensils, PTFE also has non-stick properties. This material is notably present in firefighters' equipment, in nautical equipment, as well as in mountain and hiking clothing. China is currently the world's largest producer of ePTFE.
IS IT ECO-RESPONSIBLE?
ePTFE is not environmentally friendly. Indeed, its production requires a large amount of energy and the use of many chemicals. Moreover, PTFE is not recyclable, which worsens its environmental impact.
WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?
To date, no material can really replace ePTFE. Second hand is the best alternative.
